Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of medical devices. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience with CAD software, specifically SolidWorks.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop components, mechanisms, and mechanical interfaces to solve clinical problems, taking into account inputs from R&D project teams and making DFM considerations.
  • Provide multiple options and considerations based on feedback from clinical, manufacturing, and business teams.
  • Offer guidance on material selection, mechanical interactions, and mechanisms.
  • Develop new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Research, develop, design, and evaluate mechanical and electro-mechanical materials, components, assemblies, processes, and equipment.
  • Work as an SME across several projects, providing a bigger picture view of mechanical design considerations.
  • Collaborate with product design teams to identify, ideate, prototype, and provide proof of feasibility for concepts.
  • Work with product teams and external vendors to provide working prototypes to finalized components.
  • Expertise in 3D design and technical communication, including technical drawings and presentations.
  • Create advanced CAD models of parts, assemblies, and equipment using SolidWorks tools.
  • Use CAD Database Management tools to track drawings, parts, assemblies' revisions, and properties.
  • Support documentation of components, assemblies, and test methods.
  • Guide junior engineers to develop test methods, test concepts, and designs.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.
  • Maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of strong CAD design experience in medical devices and mechanisms.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong mechanical engineering skills, ideally with molds, assemblies, surface modeling, industrial design, and plastic design using CAD software.
  • Experience in molded parts design, mold design, and drafting.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership related to product design.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
  • Experience with leading rapid design iteration (utilizing capabilities such as 3D printing), testing, and making design recommendations.
  • Ability to independently develop and adapt work plans based on vague or changing project goals.
  • Candidates should be self-starters with a hands-on approach.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Compensation

The estimated salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience and location.
