Job Summary

The Maintenance Assistant - Student Long Term Care will be responsible for the operation and management of all aspects of maintenance inside and outside the building, ensuring a safe work environment and adhering to the Ontario Health and Safety Act.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintenance within the building, including cleaning and upkeep of facilities.
  • Maintaining all equipment of the home, including mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Performing painting and general repairs, as well as cleaning shop, mechanical, and electrical rooms.
  • Ensuring a safe work environment by following safety protocols and wearing protective gear.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Maintaining Home grounds, including painting outside of Home and cleaning outside windows where accessible.
  • Collecting garbage within the Home.

Position Requirements

  • Must be a registered full-time student during the preceding academic year and be returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
  • Must be able to read and write, follow oral and written instructions, and be open-minded to learn practical skills through experience.
  • Must be reliable, conscientious, and neat, showing courtesy and tact with residents and all staff.
  • Must be adaptable and willing to perform a variety of tasks as assigned.
  • Must have a certain amount of speed and accuracy in work.
  • Must be alert to unsafe conditions and correct or report same.
  • Must have the ability to maintain high standards of operation.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening within the past 6 months.
