Job Title: Senior Labour Relations Advisor

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Labour Relations Advisor to join our team at Employment and Social Development Canada. As a key member of our Labour Relations team, you will provide strategic advice and guidance on complex labour relations issues, ensuring that our organization remains compliant with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide labour relations advice and guidance to senior management on complex and sensitive employee relations issues.
  • Interpret and apply legislation, policies, and collective agreements related to labour relations concepts.
  • Draft correspondence, briefing notes, case summaries, and responses to grievances.
  • Represent management at all levels of the grievance process, including preparing files, making recommendations, participating in hearings, and negotiating grievance procedures with unions.
  • Deal and negotiate with union representatives, bargaining agents, internal stakeholders, and partners.
Requirements:
  • University degree from a recognized institution in industrial relations, human resources, public or business administration, law, political science, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in providing strategic advice and making recommendations to senior management on complex and sensitive employee relations issues.
  • Significant experience in the interpretation and application of legislation, policies, and collective agreements related to labour relations concepts.
  • Significant experience in drafting correspondence, briefing notes, case summaries, and responses to grievances.
  • Significant experience representing management at all levels of the grievance process, including preparing files, making recommendations, participating in hearings, and negotiating grievance procedures with unions.
  • Significant experience dealing and negotiating with union representatives, bargaining agents, internal stakeholders, and partners.
Assets:
  • Recognized human resources management or industrial relations professional designation.
  • Experience developing and delivering training and information sessions on matters related to labour relations.
  • Experience providing labour relation advice/case management on disability management files.
  • Experience in supervising and managing employees.
Working Conditions:

You must be eligible to obtain both a Site Access Clearance and Enhanced Reliability Status. The process involves a background investigation that includes a loyalty assessment, law enforcement verifications, credit and financial verifications, and a security interview. Personal references and previous employers will also be contacted as part of the security screening process.
