Downstream Production Specialist

To operate downstream production machinery safely and efficiently, maintain accurate documentation, and communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure the production of high-quality products.
Key Responsibilities and Duties- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all downstream equipment to meet or exceed company-established Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) expectations and customer quality expectations.
- Follow Lock out / Tag out policy and wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when entering the production area.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) when entering the production area and operate fire extinguishers safely.
- Proactively address unsafe conditions on production equipment and report any issues to the Shift Production Supervisor immediately.
- Participate in safety training as scheduled and provided by the company and obey all machine guards and safety warnings.
- Produce and/or pack high-quality products at all times and ensure all production meets or exceeds customer standards and expectations.
- Ensure all production is properly labeled and/or tagged and place non-conforming products on hold with proper documentation.
- Collect quality measurements as directed or when necessary and ensure all quality checks are properly completed and recorded.
- Obtain and record raw material lot numbers as required and communicate out-of-specification conditions to the appropriate personnel.
- Perform scheduled Preventative Maintenance tasks as outlined by the plant PM program and address machine inefficiencies during maintenance.
- Ensure downstream equipment is clean and in 'showroom condition' after maintenance and continually evaluate equipment for improvement areas.
- Perform downstream production equipment changeovers as outlined by the plant production schedule and ensure production equipment is in safe and efficient operation after each changeover.
- Maintain sufficient records to support the Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) system – MicroMain and notify the Maintenance Manager when parts inventory becomes low or reaches a reorder point.
- Complete required paperwork and/or electronic data entry for all Micromain work orders and generate quick tickets when emergency repairs are required.
- Coordinate with the Production Manager as it relates to production equipment training and employee development and provide suggestions for training topics.
- Communicate problems, progress reports, and continuous improvement ideas to management staff, maintenance, and production personnel and promote good housekeeping habits to ensure the plant appearance exceeds management and customer expectations.
- Ensure all daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks are performed as outlined in the Master Cleaning Schedule and perform line sanitization tasks as outlined in the Master Sanitization Schedule and according to company procedures.
- Maintain a clean work area at all times and empty all garbage cans in the work area at the conclusion of the assigned shift.
- Proactively address housekeeping issues on the production floor and production equipment and organize and maintain clean workstations.
- Maintain accurate production reporting documentation and document machine or process changes, perform necessary downstream operator checklists, and maintain records of quality measurements.
- Participate actively on plant teams and activities including safety, quality, sustainability, community involvement, OEE, maintenance, employee wellness, brainstorming, and continuous improvement to create and maintain a World Class environment.
- Establish SMART goals, request regular meetings with managers, volunteer for plant improvement teams, request additional training, request involvement beyond immediate job responsibilities, and seek higher education opportunities including continuing education classes and meet or exceed self-development and performance goals.
A sense of urgency, accountability, business ethics, professionalism, self-motivation, and a desire to improve the business are essential qualities for this role. A High School diploma or GED equivalent is preferred, and the candidate should successfully complete entrance examinations and interviews.
