Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Specialist - Sustainability to join our team. This role will be responsible for maintaining and implementing our environmental management system, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise on environmental norms, laws, and best practices to internal stakeholders;
  • Act as a consultant to the executive team on environmental matters, including the development and implementation of our sustainability plan;
  • Plan and coordinate environmental committee meetings to advance our environmental initiatives;
  • Coordinate, improve, and maintain our environmental management system (based on the ISO 14001 standard) with the Senior Manager of Sustainability;
  • Develop, approve, and coordinate environmental training programs;
  • Develop and analyze data to create environmental performance indicators and disseminate them to the team and stakeholders;
  • Lead the development of environmental priorities, objectives, and orientations, and participate in management reviews;
  • Act as a change agent to promote accountability and responsibility among team members;
  • Provide expertise on environmental matters, including the identification of environmental aspects and coordination with other team members;
  • Implement a program and plan audits, and assist coordinators in analyzing discrepancies and producing non-conformity reports;
  • Act as a consultant to executive teams on complex environmental matters, and participate in projects such as construction, network maintenance, and real estate acquisition, to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations;
  • Participate in the analysis and review of environmental reports (Phase I, Phase II, ecological studies, etc.) for ongoing projects;
  • Ensure the development and approval of normative documents (policy, directives, procedures, etc.) and their continuous improvement based on priorities established in the system;
  • Establish a structure to ensure vigilance and implementation of environmental processes, and participate in various committees within the organization;
  • Coordinate team environmental meetings to ensure uniformity and understanding of tasks to be performed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, geography, chemistry, or another related field;
  • Having a biology degree and/or a master's degree in environmental science is an asset;
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in environmental matters;
  • Experience related to interventions (regulations) in aquatic, humid, sensitive environments, and in the presence of species with a status and in faunal habitats is an asset;
  • Experience in implementing and operating an environmental management system is an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations in Quebec;
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work on multiple files simultaneously;
  • Leadership and influence skills;
  • Autonomy, rigor, and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in common computer tools (Microsoft Office suite);
  • Knowledge of the ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001 system is an asset;
  • Ability to express and write in French;
  • Excellent mastery of French in speaking and writing;
  • Ability to write reports and recommendations;
  • Valid driver's license and availability for occasional travel.

Work Conditions

  • Regular full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week;
  • Head office, 1001 boulevard Robert-Bourassa, 26th floor, Montreal, Quebec, H3B 4L4;
  • Occasional travel possible to the Lachine and Pointe-St-Charles maintenance centers, as well as to garages.
