Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team as a Mental Health Specialist. In this role, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care and support to individuals with mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with mental health conditions, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Conduct group interventions and provide education to patients and families on mental health topics.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners and healthcare providers to ensure seamless care transitions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with children and youth with mental health and addiction needs within a mental health setting.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working with children and youth, with clinical experience in Mental Health nursing, involving physical assessment, treatment, and consultation regarding children, youth with mental health disorders.
  • CNA Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing preferred.
  • Completion of the RNPDC Program in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing preferred.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) Program within the last 12 months or completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in providing group interventions for parents, children, and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully developing, maintaining, and closing therapeutic relationships.
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary teamwork, time management, prioritization, communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in patient/family teaching.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with medical data collection, organization, and descriptive statistics preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family-centered care and evidence-informed practice.
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification.
  • Knowledge of IWK mental health programs and community resources.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
