About the Role

The Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for ensuring all equipment is in good working condition, performing preventive maintenance, and providing breakdown support as needed. This role requires strong mechanical skills, knowledge of occupational health and public safety program standards, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform work according to established safety rules
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems
  • Repair and refurbish mechanical equipment
  • Recommend equipment changes or upgrades to improve machine reliability and performance
  • Interpret equipment drawings and documentation
  • Document work and changes to equipment and systems
  • Adequately communicate orally and in writing
  • Answer emergency service calls, during the week and weekends, when required by operations

Requirements

  • A high level of mechanical skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational health and public safety program standards
  • Must be familiar with standardized industrial procedures, practices, and concepts
  • Problem-solving creativity is required
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Must be reliable and able to work independently and adapt to circumstances
  • The applicant must have good troubleshooting skills through careful attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software is essential
  • Demonstrate a high standard of work ethic
  • Must be able to climb stairs, lift certain loads, work in a standing or sitting position for long periods, work in confined spaces, work at heights without experiencing vertigo, and bend over or kneel to reach certain parts
  • The applicant must be able to work in a variety of high and low temperature environments or in locations requiring a breathing apparatus
  • The applicant must show a keen interest in performing the job and achieving the expected results

Education or Work Experience

  • Successful completion of a college program (DEC) in mechanical techniques, with 3 years of experience
  • Or a recognized vocational learning program (DEP) with a primary concentration in industrial mechanics, with 3-5 years of experience
  • The applicant must have prior experience with cylinder machines, blowers, conveyors, and safe assembly practices, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, work on metal parts: cutting, grinding, welding

Additional Information

  • The applicant selected will have to answer service calls in a reliable and timely manner
  • As needed, the applicant must be able to attend company-sponsored training and accept to work overtime
  • The applicant must agree to work on rotating shifts or on holidays when necessary
  • The employer usually offers 1 hour of overtime per day
  • The work schedule is Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Work in accordance with local/provincial legislation
  • Understands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements
  • All candidates must have authorization and the ability to maintain authorization to legally work in Canada.
  • Relocation support is not available for this position.
