Staff Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Tesla Toronto Automation. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for conceptualizing and designing cutting-edge machinery used across the entirety of Tesla to optimize factory operations.

This role requires strong engineering fundamentals, hands-on problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. A team player mentality, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present complex ideas effectively are essential for success in this position.

You will contribute to engineering efforts for the development of next-generation manufacturing equipment, contributing to the realization of new/innovative/improved manufacturing processes from proof of concept through to full-scale production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical equipment, fixtures, layouts, and tooling in 2D and 3D CAD (SolidWorks & AutoCAD preferred).
  • Prepare detailed drawings from solid models for various fabrication and assembly techniques.
  • Analytical and statistical analysis skills to solve design problems.
  • Conduct experiments, prototype building, and hands-on experience.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer/designer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Prior experience in high-volume manufacturing or a relevant engineering field is valued.
  • Proficiency in creating detailed drawings, analytical and statistical analysis, and experience writing production documentation.

Tesla offers competitive salaries, ranging from $130,000 to over $180,000 per year, depending on location and experience. The estimated salary range for this position is $155,000 - $170,000 per year.
