Asphalt Raker Labourer

The Asphalt Raker Labourer plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of road construction projects by redistributing asphalt mix correctly and preparing it for rolling.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess road conditions and job requirements to determine the most effective raking techniques.
- Efficiently spread asphalt with a rake, maintaining a good pace and ensuring a smooth surface.
- Properly rake longitudinal seams and transverse joints to prevent segregation and ensure a uniform surface.
- Shovel excess asphalt and sweep up debris to maintain a clean work environment.
- Ensure proper match points and limits of asphalt mix adjacent to concrete structures, manholes, and other fixtures.
- Blend and level seams in the mat to reduce visible marks and seams in the asphalt surface.
- Measure road widths and string line boundaries to guide paver operations.
- Assist the screed operator in distributing asphalt materials evenly over the road surface.
- Verify and set the angle and depth of the asphalt screed as required.
- Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
- Maintain a safe and organized worksite, free of clutter and debris.
- Perform manual labour tasks, including the use of power and hand tools.
- Complete general labour tasks, such as cleaning and preparing sites.
- Operate equipment, such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators, and skid steer, as needed.
Work Experience
- Minimum 1-5 years of experience in road construction.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience as an Asphalt Raker.
- Understanding of asphalt raking techniques.
- Knowledge of road paving construction methods and road construction materials.
- Travel as required.
- Overtime as required.
- Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
- Compliance with the company's drug and alcohol policy, including testing requirements.
- Compliance with all company policies.
- Ability to work safely around mobile equipment and maintain a high sense of safety awareness.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
- Ability to repetitively lift and carry at least 50lbs on a regular basis.
- Work performed in an outdoor setting, exposed to inclement weather, heat, and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
