Job Purpose

The General Labourer position at McAsphalt is an entry-level role that provides new employees with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in the industry.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of various equipment and machinery, including pumps, motors, and mixers.

• Perform routine monitoring and inspections to ensure the security and integrity of equipment and facilities.

• Assist team members with general support and tasks, including cleaning and maintenance of work areas.

• Demonstrate and execute safe work plans and job hazard analysis, including hot work procedures.

• Assist welders, millwrights, power engineers, and other operators on-site.

• Handle and transport materials and equipment, including asphalt and power tools.

• Use power tools and mobile power equipment, such as forklifts and loaders, as needed.

• Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions.

• Participate in seasonal activities, including snow removal and equipment maintenance.

• Take product samples and deliver them to the laboratory on-site.

• Lift up to 60lbs and recognize when lifting mechanisms are needed.

• Learn rail car safety and securement procedures.

• Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks.

• Enforce general safety practices, policies, and standards on-site.

• Complete all required training and certifications, including CCOHS training.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a clear abstract.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

• Knowledge of industrial settings and process hazards.

• Ability to work under a comprehensive safety program.

• Computer skills would be an asset.

• Strong work ethic and ability to work in an industrial setting.

• Reliable transportation and punctuality.

• Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy loads.

• Organized, self-driven, and able to understand and execute oral and written instructions.

• Good hand-eye coordination.

• Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus.

• Communication and teamwork skills.

• Commitment to safety rules, policies, and practices.

• Demonstrates and practices a 'can-do' attitude.

• Good sense of humor.
