Job Summary:

Brightshores is seeking a skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our Inpatient Mental Health team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide patient care within your professional scope of practice, working collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes in a safe and therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients and colleagues in achieving positive outcomes through a client-focused philosophy.
  • Conduct psychosocial and psychiatric assessments, including risk assessments, to inform patient care.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide education, support, and advocacy services to patients and their support persons, as needed.
  • Participate in inpatient groups and contribute to a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to achieve patient-centered care goals.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant policies, procedures, and best practices in mental health care.
  • Adhere to Brightshores' CARE Behaviours and LEAD Competencies, promoting a culture of patient safety and respect.

Requirements:

  • Current Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility.
  • Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized Community College or willingness to obtain the same.
  • Recent psychiatric nursing experience within the past three years.
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act, Substitute Decision Makers Act, HCCA, and the DSM-V-TR.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct psychosocial and psychiatric assessments, including risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of community resources and navigation of the broader mental health system.
  • Ability to think critically and respond effectively to emergent situations.
  • Valid CPI course.
  • Experience in medication delivery.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and patient assessment skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a multi-disciplinary team setting.
  • Ability to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, according to the schedule commitment to the unit.
  • Knowledge and application of BPGs for the Older Adult, including GPA or willingness to learn/accept training and integrate into practice.
  • Commitment to continuing education.
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record.
  • Adherence to Brightshores' CARE Behaviours and LEAD Competencies, promoting a culture of patient safety and respect.
