About the Role

The Second Year Apprentice Welder will join our team at Powell Canada Inc., a leading electrical manufacturing and contracting company. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, this role will involve working with a variety of welding processes and tools to produce precision parts and construct Powell Canada products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble structural steel and sheet metal products to meet dimensional specifications.
  • Operate metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, and shape sheet metal.
  • Perform light maintenance on welding and cutting equipment, as well as small power tools and fume extractors.
  • Meet quality and safety standards, adhering to Powell's Quality System and participating in ongoing safety training.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and completion of 2nd year in a Welding program.
  • Registered Apprentice with AIT (or other provincial programs).
  • CWB Certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience in structural steel fabrication is an asset.
  • Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing and Execution System) is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Temperature-controlled manufacturing environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Ability to work from various types of ladders and in a loud machinery environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling.
  • Continuous standing, walking, and lifting up to 20lbs.
  • Ability to frequently look over shoulders and use both arms at full length.
