About the Role

This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and experiences. As an Employee Relations Manager, you will be responsible for investigating and resolving medium to high-risk cases related to Indigenous Peoples, ensuring that all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, Bank policies, and processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Independently manage cases, providing value-added advice and coaching on employment-related issues to employees, People Managers, and HR Business Partners.
  • Conduct formal investigations into allegations of serious misconduct, both independently and/or in collaboration with the Employment Law Group and Corporate Security.
  • Lead employee interviews, often engaging in contentious dialogue to analyze the facts of situations; write investigative reports and present findings and recommendations to Senior Leadership to mitigate legal risk to the Bank.
  • Work in collaboration with HR Business Partners in planning the end-to-end delivery of strategic initiatives, identifying trends and providing insights to Senior Leadership and HR Business Partners to contribute to the HR strategy.
  • Promote and support a seamless and consistent experience for employees and People Managers with ER/LR issues and concerns; update and maintain accurate information in the ER/LR case file to ensure defensibility against potential litigation.
What We Offer

As an Employee Relations Manager at Scotiabank, you will have access to a competitive rewards package, including a performance bonus, Employee Share Ownership Program, and Pension Plan Matching. You will also have the opportunity to join our diverse and inclusive organization and connect with other First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Scotiabankers and their allies when joining our Indigenous Employee Resource Group. Additionally, you will have access to career development and progression opportunities, as well as $10,000 annually dedicated to your well-being and Traditional Indigenous Practices Leave.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and experiences, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will also need to be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong ability to analyze complex situations and provide recommendations to Senior Leadership.
