We are seeking an Anatomical Specimen Expert to join our team at Sinai Health System.

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary of $ 85,000 - 110,000 per year, plus comprehensive benefits package.

About the Role

In this exciting role, you will work on diverse, complex cases across various disciplines, directly impacting patient care. You will have the opportunity to learn from subspecialty pathologists and surgeons, expanding your expertise, and contribute to cutting-edge diagnostics.

Your Key Responsibilities

  1. Receive, accession, and label surgical specimens with precision and accuracy
  2. Evaluate, dissect, and provide gross description and appropriate sampling of surgical specimens, utilizing your detailed knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy, pathology, clinical context, and current protocols
  3. Sample and aliquot tissue specimens for ancillary studies, ensuring proper handling and sampling for accurate pathology diagnosis and patient safety
  4. Assist pathologists in the processing of surgical specimens, working efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  5. Conduct autopsy procedures, including review and summation of patient identifying data, internal and external examination, evisceration, dissection, microdissection (in the case of fetal autopsy), and appropriate sampling for histology
  6. Participate in weekend coverage rotation for morgue duties, frozen section, and cytological specimen preparation
  7. Train pathology residents in the skills of surgical specimen description, dissection, and sampling, autopsy procedures, and ancillary studies
  8. Troubleshoot various problems across the department, interacting with patients, administrative staff, technical staff, medical staff, and outside clients

Requirements

  1. Degree in Medical Science or Bachelor of Science with Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited educational institution

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Two years' recent experience as a Pathologists' Assistant
  2. Canadian Association of Pathologists membership and certification (or eligible for certification)
  3. College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario registration or American Society for Clinical Pathology certification

  1. Good working knowledge of computer applications, including Lab Information Systems and Microsoft Office
  2. Ability to teach and mentor staff, residents, and students
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
