Job Summary


We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Planner to join our growing team in Toronto, Ontario. This role involves leading and delivering various Environmental Assessment projects, coordinating with engineering design teams, and ensuring technical and environmental workstreams are closely aligned.


Key Responsibilities



  • Lead and deliver Environmental Assessment projects, including Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Class EAs and Municipal Engineers Association Class EAs, from planning to approval phases.
  • Closely coordinate with engineering design teams to ensure technical and environmental workstreams are aligned as part of the EA process.
  • Author Environmental Assessment Reports, including Environmental Study Reports, Project File Reports, and other supporting environmental documentation to satisfy regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret relevant legislation, including the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and Impact Assessment Act.
  • Prepare public/stakeholder consultation plans and engagement strategies for EA projects.
  • Carry out public, review agency, and Indigenous Communities consultation, including technical meetings, preparation of communication materials, consultation reports, stakeholder responses, and comment tracking.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and assist in preparing consultation strategies and meeting materials accordingly.
  • Prepare environmental impact assessments, including mitigation strategies and best management practice approaches.
  • Monitor EA project schedule, scope, and budget in accordance with the project management plan.
  • Manage a team of environmental and technical disciplines, including subconsultants, as part of the EA process.
  • Assist in preparing documentation to support permits and approvals.
  • Coordinate environmental aspects of projects through planning, design, contract specifications, and/or construction.
  • Support business development pursuits, including proposal preparation, development of technical workplans, and preparation of project fee estimates.

Requirements



  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management, Planning, Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of practical experience managing and delivering Environmental Assessments in Ontario.
  • Established working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and Impact Assessment Act.
  • Experience managing and delivering MTO Class EAs and Municipal Class EAs.
  • An understanding of transportation, transit, and municipal infrastructure construction projects gained through practical experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and drawings.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency with a strong commitment to ensuring client satisfaction, achieving goals, and objectives.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements related to noise, cultural heritage, archaeology, natural heritage, air quality, land use, species at risk, etc.
  • Excellent self-management, time management, and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and multi-task.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of various environmental permits and approvals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, team-oriented, and ability to work independently.
  • Professional designation such as Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat applications, and file sharing systems.

Other Requirements


Permanent Residency or Canadian Citizenship is required for this position. No relocation assistance will be provided for this position. Local candidates will be given preference.


Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and geographic location.
