The Role

The Department of History at Douglas College is seeking a Contract Faculty member to teach first, second, and third-year courses to students completing a degree at the College or planning to transfer to research universities. The successful candidate will be able to teach days and evenings at the New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver lectures and seminars based on the curriculum and program guidelines.
  • Instruct students and facilitate learning in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Evaluate and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Plan, organize, and manage learning activities that promote student engagement and academic success.
  • Provide academic advice and support to learners, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain high-quality, learner-centred instruction that meets the needs of diverse student populations.
  • Contribute to collegial activities within the department, faculty, and college, promoting a positive working environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a productive and respectful work environment.

To Be Successful in this Role

  • A completed PhD in History from an accredited university or a doctoral candidate with a defence date established.
  • Demonstrated evidence of experience in teaching Canadian, Indigenous, and/or American Histories, specifically at the first-year level.
  • Familiarity with a range of historiographic and interpretive issues, including indigeneity, immigration, multiculturalism, and diversity.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching diverse groups of students and a commitment to undergraduate education.
  • Active contribution to teaching community and workplace collegiality.
