About Unit 44

Unit 44 is a 32-bed in-patient medical unit that provides excellent patient and family-centered care, supporting the acute care needs of our patients. As an LPN on Unit 44, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of nurses, physicians, allied health professionals, and support workers to promote patient care in a unit culture that values and respects individual team members and their expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, effectively maintaining collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Use decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, utilizing sound nursing judgment to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Exhibit patient advocacy and patient teaching skills, promoting patient empowerment and autonomy.
  • Show time management and prioritization skills, ensuring efficient use of resources and effective task completion.
  • Foster a positive teamwork environment, promoting collaboration and respect among team members.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A diploma in practical nursing from an accredited program.
  • An active or eligible registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • A current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • At least one year of experience as a nurse in an acute care medical/surgical unit within the last three years.
  • Participation in a quality improvement or safety council or other unit workflow review committee.
  • Completion of Annual Compulsory Education.
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in an acute care medical/surgical unit is preferred. Experience with Connect Care, central venous catheter (CVC) certification, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) certification, and skin and wound care experience, including VAC dressings, are also desirable.

The estimated salary for this position is $95,000 - $110,000 per year, based on industry standards and location.
