About the Role

The Senior Risk Governance Specialist will be part of Sun Life Global Investment's (SLGI) Risk, Governance and Controls team. This is a critical function that plays a vital role in driving adherence to regulatory requirements and corporate risk policies.

The team is responsible for assessing the effectiveness of controls across the business and supporting control evolution. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support SLGI's insured wealth business, which includes our industry leading segregated funds, annuities, GIAs, and Trust GICs.

This role focuses on drivers of good market conduct and client fair treatment, including business processes and tools within Sun Life as well as through our distribution partners.

The ideal candidate will have experience in market conduct compliance and/or oversight for retail insurance products or securities industry experience that is transferrable.

Responsibilities

  1. Support Sun Life's purpose by helping distributors meet or exceed industry standards for client fair treatment
  2. Identify and follow up on indicators of poor market conduct
  3. Develop and present distributor training
  4. Work with the business, compliance, and legal teams to develop solutions that address identified risks
  5. Build and document common sense but effective controls

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of experience in the Financial Services industry
  • 5 years of experience in market conduct compliance and/or oversight for retail insurance products or securities industry experience that is transferrable
  • Strong partnership and relationship building skills, including ability to work effectively with leaders across the organization, external partners, and customers
  • Strong data management skills, including analysis of large transaction datasets using Excel and familiarity with SQL and Pivot Tables
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and experience navigating governance processes in an OSFI regulated financial services company
