Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the company's global data protection program and governance strategy, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
- Act as the main point of contact for privacy compliance, providing expert guidance and counseling stakeholders on data protection matters.
- Oversee adherence to the company's data protection program, policies, and best practices, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Design and deliver training programs to raise awareness of data protection and privacy issues among internal teams.
- Coordinate responses to privacy incidents and breaches, internal audits, investigations, and interactions with local data protection authorities, as required.
- Process requests for access to personal information from interested individuals and advise on the keeping of records of processing activities.
- Perform activities related to privacy impact assessments and vendor due diligence, measuring and monitoring the effectiveness of tools and processes to drive compliance and recommend improvements.
Requirements:
- 7-10 years of experience in a data privacy or compliance role for a multinational or in private practice in a reputable law firm.
- Law degree and membership in the Quebec or Ontario Bar, or a degree in another business-related discipline combined with relevant experience.
- Good knowledge of global data privacy laws, including GDPR, and the ability to interpret and apply such laws in Quebec, the U.S., and Europe.
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or similar certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) or other reputable professional association.
- Experience with privacy breach incident response and privacy impact assessments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in both French and English.
- Ability to manage large projects as a team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Solid knowledge of various IT applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
