The Role

The Operations Manager ensures that maintenance standards and its implementation process meet the established food quality and safety standards, ensuring that maintenance guidelines are followed effectively and safely. Taking responsibility and making sure that the workers follow the guidelines related to GMP, adhering to safety, food safety, and legislative guidelines. Working closely with Plant Production, the Operations Manager will monitor the supervision of the crew to provide quick response to management requests related to the general performance and upkeep of the production machines and equipment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage all maintenance procedures and crew activities to produce results that meet or exceed accepted quality, efficiency, and safety standards, including maintaining CFIA ratings by meeting or exceeding CFIA regulations requirements for equipment and plant maintenance, while maintaining safety.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and reporting of the weekly indicator reports and period objectives.
  • Ensure the completion of the maintenance plan by overseeing and advising on the establishment of priorities, the revision of schedules and the resolution of problems.
  • Assist in planning the annual plant-wide operating budgets.
  • Develop, direct, manage, train, and motivate Supervisors and employees by communicating job expectations, appraising job results, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees in conjunction with the Human Resource department.
  • Liaise with other departments on maintenance concerns and maintain strong relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with maintenance crew and report back to Plant Manager.
  • Provide input into matters on changes in food safety procedures, product quality, and Quality Assurance related matters.
  • Participate in JHSC initiatives and follow established policies as outlined in the Health and Safety policies.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all Quality Systems.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Proven leadership, team building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, co-workers, and Managers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to lead, motivate, coach, mentor and resolve employee conflict.
  • Ability to accurately maintain detailed records.
  • Strong safety focus.
  • High Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as being a strong team player.
  • 3+ years related and/or Management experience.
  • Possession of Diploma or post-secondary education with Technical Certificate preferred.
  • Experience in meat processing as an asset.
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability to take up additional duties and cross-train.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize.
  • Occasional overtime and ability to work various shifts may be required.
