Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Operations Manager to lead our Edmonton facility. As a key member of our site leadership team, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the plant, meeting or exceeding quality, cost, productivity, and customer service standards.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide functional direction and leadership to all operating departments in the plant, setting and managing performance objectives that include food and employee safety, product and packaging quality, and customer order fulfillment.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and codes, including WCB, HACCP, WHMIS, and Workplace H&S.
  • Collaborate with R&D, QC, Maintenance/Engineering, and Production Department leaders to troubleshoot and resolve problems in their areas.
  • Negotiate and maintain supplier contracts with vendors and contractors, including rates, service level specifications, and conflict resolution protocols.
  • Develop and enhance positive employee relations, increasing overall employee engagement.
  • Ensure effective operation of the plant on a 2-shift, 5-day schedule.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of management experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on talent development and team building.
  • Some post-secondary education or professional development courses, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% in North America.
  • Previous experience in a similar industry or organization.
  • Experience in the food and beverage manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • High-level business acumen and ability to deal with daily facility problems and high-level management.
  • Good working knowledge of product formulas, costing, and experience in bringing R&D endeavors to fruition.
  • Ability to lead and manage change at all levels in the plant, skilled at handling employee relations and maintaining good employee morale.
  • Prior experience working in a union avoidance environment is preferred.
  • A proven track record of effective development, communication, and implementation of complex strategies for products, processes, people, and policy.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve technical and logistic problems.
  • Ability to make and sustain excellent interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization and across cultural and ethnic diversity.
  • Strong written, verbal, and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed the physical requirements of the facility's working conditions.

Work Environment

Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required tasks. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.

Additional demands may be required. In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after-hours and weekends as needed. May work outside and in adverse temperatures, including extreme hot, cold, and humidity. Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company Safety standards.
