About the Role

As a seasoned leader, you will oversee the Marketing Tech engineering team at Thumbtack, driving customer growth and innovation. This interdisciplinary team consists of engineers with diverse skill sets, including frontend, backend, data engineering, and machine learning/optimizations. You will partner with product, design, data science, and marketing leads to develop and execute a growth strategy, while building critical infrastructure and systems that power that growth and enable the team to move fast.

Responsibilities

  1. Build and grow an exceptional engineering organization with a strong culture of excellence and agility. The team is currently at 10 engineers and will expand quickly.
  2. Hire and support senior technical leaders to scale the organization and achieve aggressive growth goals across existing and emerging channels.
  3. Partner closely with marketing leads to understand their needs and priorities, and work with engineering, product, design, and analytics teams to craft a compelling vision and long-term strategy for growth.
  4. Set the team up for success in execution, anticipating and planning for infrastructure needs for long-term success. This could include backend systems, machine learning models, frontend infrastructure for excellent page speed, or experimental infrastructure for rapid testing and prototyping of onboarding flows within our native apps.
  5. Collaborate with other engineering leaders to evolve and continually improve Thumbtack's engineering culture in a high-paced growth environment.

  1. Experience in a senior engineering management role.
  2. 8-10+ years of experience building software at scale.
  3. Good knowledge of growth strategies and experience building and scaling growth teams.
  4. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  5. Passion for leading teams, setting vision, developing leaders, and building highly functioning organizations.
  6. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve results.
  7. Stay up to date with innovation, able to guide technology evolution, and not afraid to write code.

Bonus Points if You Have

  1. Experience at a growth-stage consumer tech company.
  2. Experience with a marketplace business.
  3. Experience in building marketing technology (martech).
  4. Experience managing managers is a plus but not a must-have.
