Supervisor, Building Standards
Job Summary:Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Supervisor, Building Standards. This permanent, full-time position is responsible for leading a team in the enforcement of the Building Code and ensuring compliance with municipal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead a team of building officials in the enforcement of the Building Code and municipal regulations.
- Develop and implement procedures for the review and approval of building plans and permits.
- Provide technical guidance and support to staff and stakeholders on building code requirements and regulatory compliance.
- Communicate with developers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Investigate and resolve complaints related to building code enforcement.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management and council on building code enforcement activities and trends.
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure effective communication and coordination on building code enforcement.
- Provide training and development opportunities for staff to enhance their knowledge and skills in building code enforcement.
- Stay up-to-date with changes to building codes and regulations and implement updates in a timely manner.
- Advanced diploma or degree in a related field, such as building science, architecture, or engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in building code enforcement or a related field.
- Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and direct a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply them in a practical context.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
