About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Horticulture Scientist to join our team at The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for leading biological research projects to drive innovation and product development in the horticulture industry.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and execute sound research protocols to investigate the effects of cultural practices on plant growth, including irrigation, plant spacing, temperature, CO2 enrichment, and more.
  2. Collaborate with the Genetics & Category teams to provide input to all studies and their execution, ensuring alignment on project goals and effective use of resources.
  3. Analyze data collected by the cultivation team, identify trends and patterns, and make recommendations for further testing and product development.
  4. Develop and maintain strong relationships with study sponsors, sales associates, universities, and growers to stay up-to-date on new technologies, research methods, and industry trends.
  5. Host facility tours and provide presentations to senior management, study sponsors, sales team, and key customers to demonstrate the effectiveness of our research program.
Requirements
  1. Master of Science required, Ph.D. preferred, in a relevant biological science such as horticulture, genetics, floriculture, or soil science.
  2. Experience in a horticulture-related field, such as controlled environment agriculture (CEA), greenhouse, hydroponics, or ornamental container nursery.
  3. Cannabis research or experience with a licensed producer is considered an asset.
  4. Strong working knowledge of typical practices in controlled environments, hydroponic, and soilless culture.
  5. Demonstrated ability to design and lead research programs to answer specific questions to commercialize horticultural products or technologies.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills to influence direction, enable decisions, and make progress.
