This is a critical senior-level management opportunity within ROSS's growing IT team. Our ideal candidate would be a proven leader who is passionate about people management and has the ability to effectively lead a team of 35 people made up of Solutions Developers, Designers, and Technical Team Leads. While a solid technical understanding is required for this position (preferably within Distributed Technology), the real focus of this position is hands-on leadership.

This position will report functionally to the Director, Application Practices, and has accountability for the Distributed Technologies domain. Application Practices' mandate is to provide skilled, knowledgeable people and effective practices to delivery areas.

Your solid leadership abilities combined with your technical expertise will allow you to be successful in this position. Respected by others for both your demonstrated leadership skills and technical knowledge, you will model the vision and the culture of the ITS department, inspiring and influencing others to achieve results.

As the Manager, Distributed Technologies, you will be accountable for the people and practices associated with the design, development, and maintenance of business applications based on distributed technologies. These include the J2EE framework, Java, IBM's WebSphere family, and various third-party tools.

Key Responsibilities:

* Proven leadership ability and understanding of what constitutes an effective leader

* Solid judgment and decision-making skills with the ability to think outside the box and make difficult decisions when required

* Strong relationship-building skills and collaborative work style, with the ability to work in partnership with various stakeholders across all levels of the organization

* Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively lead a diverse employee group

* Strong level of comfort around managing people, including the ability to effectively coach and develop employees

* Strong level of flexibility and comfort working within a constantly changing environment, with the ability to act as a change agent and champion corporate direction

Qualifications:

* 10+ years of IT-related experience is required, with direct experience in the related technologies and/or disciplines

* 5-10 years of experience in a leadership position, with total accountability for the day-to-day people management of a large number of direct reports

* Completed university degree or college diploma is required

* Experience working in a start-up environment would be considered an asset, as the ability to live with and clarify ambiguity is often required

* Previous experience building successful teams is highly regarded
