Assistant Professor of Teaching in Biostatistics and Data Science

Job Summary:

The Department of Zoology at The University of British Columbia seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor of Teaching position in the tenure-track Educational Leadership stream, focused on Biostatistics and Data Science in the Biology undergraduate program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach biostatistics and biology courses at various levels of undergraduate instruction
  • Coordinate the teaching team for multiple sections of biostatistics lectures and tutorials using R
  • Develop tutorials to incorporate basic statistics and data science principles into first and second-year biology courses
  • Participate in departmental activities, service, events, and initiatives
Requirements:
  • Background in biology or biomedical science
  • Strong foundation in statistics relevant for the biological sciences
  • PhD and teaching experience in biostatistics valued but not required
  • Ability to teach large enrollment courses in biostatistics and biology
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in discipline-based educational research
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Strong commitment to improving biology teaching
