Job Title: Housing/Shelter Support Worker
Job Summary:
Our Place Society is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Housing/Shelter Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our support team, you will work closely with residents, shelter users, and community contacts to provide a safe and welcoming environment. Your primary responsibility will be to assist residents with daily living tasks, provide emotional support, and connect them with community resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with daily living tasks, such as meal preparation, laundry, and cleaning.
- Provide emotional support and connect residents with community resources, such as counseling services and job training programs.
- Develop and implement individualized support plans to meet the unique needs of each resident.
- Collaborate with the support team to ensure a cohesive and effective approach to resident support.
- Participate in cross-agency working groups to share best practices and address community needs.
- Document resident interactions, progress, and challenges in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment by adhering to health and safety policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Diploma in a related human/social service field.
- Minimum one year of recent related experience.
- Basic computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Training in or knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques and harm reduction approach.
- Ability to work independently and show initiative and creativity.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients and coworkers both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in an intense and challenging work environment.
Working Conditions:
Full-time, three 12-hour shifts (36 hours/week), Sat/Sun/Mon (7am – 7pm). Compensation: $31.56 to $33.49 per hour. Benefits: Vacation is accrued at a rate of 6% or in accordance with your length of service as per the collective agreement (Article 18.1). Eligible for a 100% employer paid comprehensive benefits plan, including health and dental coverage, after completion of probationary period.
