We are seeking a highly skilled Insurance Defence Clerk to join our team at Aviva Trial Lawyers in Dartmouth. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting one lawyer in the handling of insurance defence litigation matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare and draft correspondence and legal documents, including motion records, affidavits, pre-trial/mediation memos, and cost outlines.
  2. Compile books of authorities/factums.
  3. Prepare and follow up with requests for productions and undertakings.
  4. Summarize discovery notes, transcripts, economic loss, and medical reports.
  5. Arrange investigations/surveillance, including preparing instruction letters to investigators.
  6. Arrange independent medical examinations, including drafting and preparing medical briefs.
  7. Dcta-typing, filing, keeping the lawyer's calendar updated, and updating internal databases.
  8. Requisition cheques.
  9. Maintain file organization.
  10. Book travel, including flights, cars, and hotels as needed.
  11. Ensure integrity of information in case management applications.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3+ years of legal assistant and law clerk experience in an insurance defence or personal injury litigation environment.
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with MS Word and Outlook.
  • Proficient in the Civil Procedure Rules and Court forms.
  • Customer-service oriented with superb communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail with a desire to take initiative.
  • Able to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a team.
