The Halifax Regional Centre for Education is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to join its team in Central Office - Student Services. This role is responsible for assisting school teams by providing specialized knowledge and skills in the implementation of accessible education materials and assistive technology.

About the Role

As an Assistive Technology Support Worker, you will work within the Inclusive Education Policy and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework for the delivery of services to students. Your primary focus will be on supporting the appropriate use of student equipment, technology, and applications (hardware and software). You will work collaboratively with a team of educational professionals to teach students how to maximize assistive technology for increased well-being and achievement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized knowledge and skills in the implementation of accessible education materials and assistive technology.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to teach them how to maximize assistive technology for increased well-being and achievement.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the school improvement process in support of student learning.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Disability Supports and Services or acceptable equivalent.
  • Demonstrated competency using voice-to-text and text-to-voice programs such as Google Read and Write and Google suite of applications.
  • A valid driver's license and daily access to a vehicle.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and demonstrated aptitude in Assistive Technology and software used in schools for students.
  • Experience working in school settings with children and youth.
Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary of $35,817.70 per year, including 4% vacation pay. The annual salary is based on a five-step scale with step increases occurring annually. Additionally, you will receive comprehensive health and dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and access to generous sick time benefits.
