About the Role

Copeland is seeking a highly skilled Buyer & Customs Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our procurement and trade compliance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with all government legislation and regulations related to import/export and trade requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead cost savings projects and initiatives to optimize MRO spend
  • Coordinate and prepare documentation required for export shipments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations
  • Determine eligibility and review free trade agreements, as well as approve supplier-generated USMCA certificates
  • Review customs entries to ensure accurate declaration of value, HTS classification, and exemptions
  • Maintain classification of Tariff Codes and country of origin
  • Facilitate resolution of supply chain disruptions related to customs or other government department requirements
  • Provide regulatory compliance guidance on import/exports
  • Support USMCA and general preferential trade programs, ensuring compliance
  • Support supply chain security initiatives, such as PIP-CTPAT
  • Manage issues related to proper legal interpretation of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Country of Origin designations, Customs Valuations, International Trade Administration's anti-dumping regulated product flows, duty drawback, and other governmental programs driving exemptions of products and purchases
  • Assist in developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and instructions manuals to ensure compliance with import and export laws, regulations, administrative practices, and supply chain security
  • Create and send purchase orders, check for confirmations, and pricing, track delivery in some circumstances
  • Contact suppliers and work with teams to source new items
  • Work with and assist corporate MRO buyers on projects
  • Responsible for maintaining supply vending machines
  • Assist the buying/planning team with duties as needed, including being a backup
  • Help team members achieve overall department and company goals
Requirements
  • High School/College degree or Bachelor's Degree or any other post-secondary certificate
  • Minimum + years' experience in Trade compliance classifying products
  • Microsoft Office software experience (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook)
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Flexibility for assigned tasks outside of assigned role
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada – sponsorship will not be provided for this position
Preferred Qualifications
  • CTCS (Certified Trades Compliance Specialist) designation completed or in progress
  • CIFFA (Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association) designation completed or in progress
  • CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) designation completed or in progress
  • Commercial invoice preparation experience
  • Product classification (HTS) experience
  • Experience working with rules to determine country of origin and valuation
  • Experience with USMCA declarations
