Medical Director

The Site Medical Director and Chief of Staff at Island Health is a strategic leadership position that plays a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality medical services within the site. This position works in a collaborative co-leadership model with the Site Director to drive integrated service delivery and monitor medical governance.
Main Responsibilities- Leadership and Governance: Co-lead and oversee activities to ensure seamless service delivery within the site, while linking with Departmental Medical Leaders to address matters of physician governance and professional medical practice issues.
- Operations and Quality: Co-monitor site performance, focusing on issues that arise between programs, and facilitate course corrections when necessary. Ensure timely investigation and resolution of site-related PSLS and PCQO events, and collaborate with Departmental Medical Leaders and Medical Affairs to address individual practitioner quality issues.
- Change Management: Co-develop and implement change management plans to engage and support site physicians and staff through change.
- Informatics and Technology: Oversee activities that advance technology and data use to improve service delivery, utilizing the electronic health records (EHR) in collaboration with the Quality Systems team.
- Planning and Resource Allocation: Assess, monitor, and anticipate site resource needs, working with medical leaders and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within available resources.
- Collaborate in a co-leadership model with the assigned Site Director.
- Chair or co-chair relevant site committees.
- Use Island Health email address for work-related communications.
- Dedicate time to this position during Island Health regular working hours, or as agreed upon with the Executive Medical Director and Executive Director.
- Participate in orientation and training.
