At PLEA Community Services Society of BC, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Addiction Support Specialist to join our Adult Services team in Abbotsford, BC.

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $75,000 per year, based on experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health/welfare benefits, an education and training fund, and access to an Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP).

This is a regular full-time position, requiring a Bachelor of Arts in the social sciences or human services or a related discipline, and one year of recent experience working in programs with vulnerable adults who are deemed to be high risk, and/or involved in the justice system, and involved in harmful substance use, and their families/caregivers.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the Services Coordinator and Family Caregivers to support the goals identified in each participant's service plan;
  • Developing and implementing appropriate plans, strategies, and activities that will address complex needs, strengthen protective factors, and provide a sense of stability in the program;
  • Providing close supervision and support in the community to assist participants in achieving their individual goals, maintaining motivation to make safer choices, and developing new interests and connections;
  • Implementing interventions that address personal, social, and healthcare needs, recognizing contextual dynamics, and facilitating group treatment programming;
  • Maintaining ongoing positive relationships with Family Caregivers and participating in improving the quality of life for participants and addressing individual strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences consistently;
  • Teaching life skills and community survival skills, providing emotional support, and modeling acceptable behavior;

To succeed in this role, you will require strong interpersonal communication, facilitation, and conflict management skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with others, develop supportive relationships, and facilitate group processes. You will also need to possess knowledge of issues and trends related to addictions services, relevant Criminal Justice Legislation and policies, and Microsoft Office suite and database systems.
