Job Summary
Pacific Blue Cross, a leading health benefits provider in British Columbia, seeks an experienced Insurance Underwriter to join its team. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to interpret complex contracts and assess risk.
About the Position
The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing new business opportunities, renewals, and contract amendments for group and major clients. They will analyze requests to quote, assess eligibility and degree of risk, and identify factors that result in declines. The candidate will also manage large case quotes, assign work, and interface with internal departments and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze claims experience, credibility, group size, industry, and economic influences to determine renewal rates or rate changes.
- Assess requested amendments to plan design and determine their impact on pricing or ability to renew.
- Manage large case quotes as a project, assigning work and requesting information from internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Calculate rates and benefits based on results of analysis, consulting with account executives and other stakeholders to determine degree of leeway present for negotiating alternate pricing or plan alterations.
- Prepare financial statements for refund and Administrative Service Only accounting clients, implementing strategies to recover deficits or declining to renew.
- Generate a renewal package including all required support documentation and forward it to Group Business for processing.
- Provide analytics and rationales to support Group Business in their ability to support PBC's position on quotes, pricing considerations, and exceptions.
Requirements
- 6 years of previous related group underwriting experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a Level 2 Underwriter, Intermediate Underwriter, or equivalent position.
- Bachelor's degree in a related quantitative field such as business, economics, finance, actuarial, mathematics, or equivalent.
- CEBS designation (180 hours) or the full 10-course FMLI program (160 hours), or equivalent.
- Demonstrated proficiency with advanced Excel and intermediate Word.
- Estimated Salary: $40.33 per hour.
