Job Opportunity:

The Royal Bank of Canada is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join its Corporate Development team as a Strategic Development Analyst. This role will play a critical part in shaping and executing the bank's inorganic growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the assessment of market trends and competitive landscape to inform strategic initiatives.
  • Support the development, evaluation, and execution of mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and joint venture opportunities.
  • Collaborate with senior Corporate Development colleagues to define and scope strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare thoughtful business cases to ensure decisions are based on comprehensive financial and strategic analyses.
  • Work closely with business and functional teams to develop inorganic growth plans.
  • Foster collaboration between RBC's business units and functions to support inorganic growth.
  • Play an important role in strategic idea generation and review of potential acquisition and divestiture opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of strategic analysis of potential growth areas for RBC.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial analysis, including building of company forecast models, assessment of synergies/dis-synergies, valuation analysis, and impact of acquisition/divestiture on RBC Group.
  • Assist in the execution of acquisition and divestiture transactions.

Requirements:

  • Honours-level University degree in Business/Finance/Economics/Math/Engineering or similar field.
  • 2+ years of experience in corporate finance or M&A, preferably within an M&A team in a financial services organization, investment bank, or accounting firm.
  • Experience in financial modeling skills, including valuation analysis.
  • Strong initiative to undertake comprehensive analysis to spark idea generation.
  • Experience in preparing insightful presentation materials to assess the market landscape and potential target companies.
  • Keen interest in the financial services sector and ability to assist with research and analysis work across various lines of banking businesses.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact at senior levels internally and externally.
  • Naturally curious with a keenness for learning and development.
  • Ability to be resourceful and solutions-focused.
  • Flexibility to adapt working hours to the situation required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced studies, e.g. MBA, CFA, CA, CBV.
  • Global mindset and ability to work with people of different cultures and across time zones.
  • Understanding of key research tools (such as Bloomberg, ThomsonONE, SNL, CapitalIQ, Pitchbook, CB Insights, etc.).
