Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced HSE Coordinator - Health Safety and Environmental Expert to join our team at ALS in Winnipeg, MB, Canada. This is a full-time position that requires a strong background in health, safety, and environmental management.
About the Role
The HSE Coordinator will work closely with location managers to ensure all health, safety, and environmental functions are fulfilled in Winnipeg. This includes incident prevention, investigation, reporting, and follow-up, as well as employee training, HSE record review, and compliance with other components of the safety program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement all ALS health and safety programs in ALS Winnipeg in collaboration with the National Health and Safety Manager and location manager;
- Co-chair Joint Health Safety and Environment Committee meetings and associated audits;
- Provide orientation and ongoing health and safety training for staff;
- Coordinate HSE training programs for all employees (WHMIS, TDG, First Aid, etc.)
- Ensure adequate first aid management including supplies, reporting, resources, and scheduling;
- Perform incident management including investigation, reporting, and follow-up;
- Cooperate with Injury Management personnel as necessary;
- Follow up on monthly site safety inspections and actions;
- Recommend corrective and preventative safety measures and appropriate safety equipment and materials to local management;
- Lead risk analysis and hazard identification processes for both safety and the environment;
- Coordinate and maintain contractor management induction, insurance, and documentation;
- Maintain and update SDS records stored on-site;
- Maintain emergency response procedures including scheduling drills and inspections;
- Write procedures, policies, and educational material for the local safety program;
- Assist the National Safety Manager in reviewing and creating policies and procedures as assigned;
- Conduct exposure monitoring programs and employee fit tests;
- Notify and coordinate hazardous sample receipt and analysis with the laboratory, safety team, and contractors and disposal as required;
- Perform Quality Systems (QS) administrative tasks as assigned, under the direct supervision of the local Quality Coordinator;
About You
You must have excellent English communication skills, strong organizational and leadership abilities, and the ability to speak effectively in public and present information to groups. A careful and meticulous worker with proven time management skills and a strong work ethic is essential for this role.
Requirements:
- A technical diploma or degree in HSE or a related discipline is required;
- Experience in a laboratory environment is an asset;
- A valid unrestricted license for personal vehicle use applicable in the province/territory is required;
- No major driving violations and no more than two minor violations/incidents are acceptable.
Physical Demands:
You must be able to lift up to 30 lbs on a regular basis, complete a full shift with a combination of sitting, standing, and occasional walking, and wear issued personal protective equipment when required.
