Job Summary

As a Perfusionist with Fraser Health, you will play a critical role in supporting the Cardiac Anaesthetist and Cardiac Surgeon in the direct application of extracorporeal perfusion techniques. Your technical expertise will be essential in monitoring physiological responses of patients undergoing open heart surgery, operating and maintaining related equipment, and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble and operate extracorporeal equipment to support or temporarily replace the patient's circulatory and respiratory functions.
  • Monitor and manage hemodynamic pressures, blood gases, anti-coagulation levels, electrocardiograph, and coronary/systemic blood flow.
  • Administer blood products, drugs, anaesthesia vapours, crystalloid solutions, and medical gases as directed by Cardiac Anaesthetists and surgeons.
  • Carry out various physiological measurements and calculations, and perform calibration and maintenance duties as required.
  • Maintain strict sterile technique and accurate, legible records and statistics.
  • Participate in perfusion science and related medical research projects, and clinical teaching of perfusion students.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized program in Perfusion Science plus two years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiovascular Perfusionists (CSCP) and/or American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certified.
