At CI Financial, we are seeking a highly skilled Taxation Director to join our team. This is a key role that will play a critical part in managing all fund taxation aspects for our mutual funds, ETFs, closed-end funds, mutual fund corporations, and segregated funds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual tax distribution and allocation cycles for mutual funds, ETFs, and closed-end funds.
  • Manage mock and final distributions calculation reviews for year-end.
  • Manage distribution rates reviews against transfer agency systems, including year-end tax factors and tax slips.
  • Review and file fund tax returns.
  • Manage year-end audits and CRA audits.
  • Review quarterly distributions and valuations of quarterly funds.
  • Review tax-related fund projections, including fund launches, fund mergers, fund terminations, corporate actions, etc.
  • Ensure tax documents are completed, including W8 BENE, CRS, W9, and tax IDs.
  • Review CI tax optimizer tools and other tax-related enhancements.
  • Review tax disclosures in prospectuses and legal documentation.
  • Assist in HST blended rate calculations.
  • Manage PFIC reporting.
  • Manage external providers in tax reclaim filing documentation and other information requests.
  • Develop and execute policies and procedures for fund taxation.
  • Assist marketing, sales, legal, client service, and administration departments in tax-related inquiries.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the financial services industry, with a focus on Canadian mutual funds and ETFs.
  • Experience in various roles, including accountant, fund accounting manager, and portfolio administrator.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures to maintain compliance with various regulations.
  • Education level: Bachelor's degree.
  • Accounting designation is an asset.
  • Additional courses: CSC.
  • Technical skills: Microsoft Office, MCH, and E-Horizon, Reuters, Bloomberg.
  • General knowledge: Financial instruments, markets, fund accounting principles, and practices, IFRS.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistent high level of accuracy.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, under pressure, and with time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Sound professional judgment, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Able to work in a high-performance culture.
  • Open to and comfortable with constantly evolving and changing priorities and new challenges.
