About the Role

Maverick FX is seeking an experienced Urban Planner to join our Planning & Development team in the greater Calgary area. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering municipal planning services, ensuring that day-to-day applications complement the natural beauty of our community and meet the needs of our residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing complex development applications and subdivisions;
  • Appearing before public decision-making bodies, including Planning Commission, appeal boards, and Council;
  • Working independently on projects both big and small, with a collaborative cross-departmental team;
  • Delivering a variety of municipal planning services, including reviewing design justifications, planning rationales, and other elements included in the municipal approval process;
  • Detailed project management and design with an entrepreneurial mindset;
  • High energy, innovative thinking, and a dynamic approach to design and planning are a must;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills;
  • Able to work under pressure, as a self-starter with a collaborative work style, possessing well-developed organizational skills and conflict resolution skills to reach successful planning outcomes in a politically sensitive environment;

Requirements

  • Master's in Planning, Urban Design, B. Urban Planning / Design / Geography / Architecture;
  • RPP, MCIP designation an asset;
  • LEED AP and PMP additional assets;
  • 3+ years' experience of Urban Planning / Design experience in Canada;
  • Excellent technical knowledge and design experience within the industry with a proven knowledge base with Provincial, Regional, and Municipal Policy (Growth Planning, Supportive 'Infrastructure' Planning (e.g., Transportation and Movement, Housing), secondary plans, framework plans, hub / corridor studies, etc.)
