About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Counsel to join our team at HDI Global Specialty SE in Canada. As a key member of our Legal and Compliance Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with Canadian regulations and developing effective strategies to mitigate risks.

Job Description

As the Lead Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal advice on insurance contract and distribution law, drafting and negotiating contractual documents, and reviewing insurance terms and conditions. Your expertise in regulatory compliance will help us navigate complex Canadian laws and regulations.

You will also work closely with our Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and Data Management & Marketing teams to provide legal support and ensure that our operations are compliant with relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on insurance contract and distribution law
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contractual documents and agreements
  • Review and draft insurance terms and conditions
  • Provide legal assistance for new products and product documentation
  • Assist in license applications and liaise with regulatory authorities as required
  • Coordinate corporate legal matters with the Legal Team at Home Office
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A university degree in law (JD / LLB), and licensed to practice in Ontario
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a legal, corporate or financial environment
  • Knowledge of insurance contract law and insurance distribution law considered an asset
  • Experience working with Canadian regulatory authorities
  • Experience implementing a regulatory compliance framework within an institution
  • Strong understanding of the law, legal methodology, and legal principles
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on your level of experience. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, we provide opportunities for professional growth and development.
