Financial Controller Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our Finance team, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing the local accounting function, ensuring the implementation and safeguarding of accounting procedures, controls, and reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting processes, adhering to Group policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the accuracy of financial reporting and systems to comply with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) requirements and corporate policies, guaranteeing the integrity of financial results for Canada.
  • Own the balance sheet review process, identifying risks and opportunities to the CFO as they arise.
  • Support the detailed review and submission of Financial Statements prepared by the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Partner to the Market Finance Lead for approval.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team to review proposed monthly revenue and cost accruals, ensuring completeness and accuracy of our financials.
  • Support routine General Ledger activities, such as transaction posting and key account reconciliations, including liaison with the BPO Partner.
  • Partner with external auditors during interim review and year-end audit processes, with support from the BPO Partner and the global tax team with tax audit requests.
  • Support the internal control environment and testing across the organization, communicating exceptions and performance reports back to the business.
  • Help integrate new processes, revenue streams, and system migrations to ensure the mitigation of all potential financial risks and recommend best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to operational methods.
  • Work with multiple currencies.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years or equivalent of financial controlling experience in a large business environment.
  • CPA designation (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience working with large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP S4.
  • Excellent communication skills and relationship building capabilities, at all levels in an organization, with the ability to work in a large matrix multi-national environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Adaptability and organizational skills, with an eagerness to assume new responsibilities, learn new tasks as the business evolves, and manage changing priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of IFRS.
  • Excellent Google Suite skills (advanced in Excel/spreadsheets).
