Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Estimator to join our team in Scarborough, Ontario. As a key member of our estimating department, you will play a critical role in preparing accurate and comprehensive estimates for construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of estimators in preparing estimates for construction projects, including mechanical, industrial, commercial, government, and institutional markets.
- Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards, and conduct negotiations.
- Establish and maintain tendering processes, set up cost monitoring and reporting systems, and procedures.
- Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects regarding tenders.
- Oversee site reviews, tender reviews, tender hand-offs, project closings, and operational meetings with the Division Manager, General Manager, Project Manager, and Purchasing as required.
- Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Stay up-to-date with new technology within the mechanical contracting industry to ensure accurate estimates.
- Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
- Travel to various sites or clients to undertake the above responsibilities.

- Graduate of a Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience, or a qualified tradesperson in the mechanical field with several years of experience and previous estimating experience.
- 15-20 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects of a $10M value or higher.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of contract management, construction scheduling, planning, and execution.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and trade fluency in plumbing, hydronic, and HVAC.
- Organization and time management skills, with self-driven leadership abilities.
- P.Eng. or CET would be considered an asset, as well as project management experience.
- Advanced user of MS applications (Word, Excel, and Projects), Autobid Mechanical (QuickPen), and Accubid Change Order Pro.
