Black & McDonald's Southern Ontario team is growing, and we're seeking a skilled and experienced Chief Estimator to join our team. As a Chief Estimator, you will play a key role in leading our estimating team and working closely with our General Manager to deliver high-quality estimates and projects.

Job Summary

The Chief Estimator will be responsible for leading a team of estimators specializing in mechanical ICI construction, preparing estimates of probable costs of materials, labor, subcontractors, and equipment for construction projects. You will advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards, and conduct negotiations. Additionally, you will establish and maintain tendering processes, set up cost monitoring and reporting systems, and coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of estimators in preparing estimates for construction projects
  • Advise on tendering procedures and recommend tender awards
  • Establish and maintain tendering processes and cost monitoring systems
  • Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, and owners
  • Oversee site reviews, tender reviews, and project closings
  • Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Prepare economic feasibility studies and maintain industry presence
Requirements
  • Graduate of Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience
  • Qualified tradesperson in mechanical field with several years' experience and previous estimating experience
  • 15-20 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects of $10M value or higher
  • Advanced knowledge of contract management, construction scheduling, and trade fluency
  • Self-driven leadership abilities and project management experience
