Purpose and Responsibilities:

The role of a Medical Laboratory Assistant at Hanna Health Centre encompasses a range of tasks, including the procurement, handling, and processing of specimens, as well as the execution of laboratory procedures and the reporting of results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality services to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.
  • Perform various laboratory functions, including the procurement, handling, processing, dispatching, and testing of specimens.
  • Conduct procedures and report results.
  • Assume responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve common goals and ensure a smooth workflow.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Cardiology training and experience, including ECGs and Holter Monitors.
  • Proficiency in blood collection procedures, including venipuncture, micropunctures, and blood culture collection.
  • Ability to work with patients of all ages, including newborns, pediatrics, and geriatrics.
  • Driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with Clinitek Status.
  • Recent experience with Muse and Cardioday.
  • Recent and relevant experience with Epic Beaker.
  • Current registration with CSMLS.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and promote teamwork.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The Medical Laboratory Assistant will work in a healthcare setting, with regular exposure to laboratory equipment, specimens, and patients. The role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
