Student Health and Wellness Ambassador

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Student Health and Wellness Ambassador. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in promoting health and wellness among students, providing accurate and current information on various health topics, and engaging with students to break stigma and promote resources on campus and in the community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide accurate and current information to students about the six pillars of health, including general health, sleep hygiene, nutrition and fitness, sexual health, mental health, and harm reduction in substance use.
- Assist in the design and development of health promotion materials, including posters, flyers, and social media content.
- Attend and actively participate in training sessions to develop knowledge in health topics and health promotion strategies.
- Participate in campus-wide and residence outreach and health and wellness-related events to promote health and wellness resources.
- Create and maintain an inclusive environment that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Student Counselling and Wellness Supports.
- Current Algonquin College student, registered for the Fall 2024 semester.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
- Ability to approach and engage others, initiating conversation and speaking about relevant health and mental health-related topics.
- Knowledgeable about health-related topics and resources.
- Comfortable working independently and as a member of a team.
- Experience presenting information to groups of people.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative thinking and the confidence to use it.
- This position is funded through the College Student Employment Program (CSEP). Applicants must be eligible for CSEP.
- You must be currently enrolled in a full-time program. The following students are not eligible: Second Career, Apprenticeship Programs, International students, Algonquin College employees paying a reduced tuition, Collaborative programs with the University of Ottawa or Carleton University, and all programs that are not Ministry-approved.
- You must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person/Convention Refugee within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) prior to the application deadline date.
- You must demonstrate a financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding.
