About the Role

Job Summary

Fraser Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) to join our Mental Health and Substance Use Services team. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide person-centered and recovery-oriented care to individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate care for clients by collaborating with the interprofessional care team, performing intake functions, conducting mental health assessments, and developing comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Provide direct nursing care to clients, including reviewing client/family history, conducting physical/psychosocial assessments, and implementing treatment modalities such as ADLs, wound care, and medication administration.
  • Work from a strengths-based model, using motivational interviewing and engagement techniques to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their informal support networks, engaging stakeholders in treatment planning and evaluation.
  • Teach clients and their families about management and treatment of specific psychiatric conditions, concurrent substance use issues, and their symptoms.
  • Provide treatment services, including crisis intervention, individual counseling, and education, according to various theoretical models.
  • Initiate and participate in case conferences/meetings with clients, family, service providers, and members of the interprofessional team to ensure a coordinated approach to treatment.
  • Act as a client advocate to protect and promote clients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One year of recent, related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders in a community or acute setting.
  • May require completion of a substance use certificate program.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
