Main Purpose and Function

This role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Gift Shop and Admissions Desk at VanDusen Botanical Garden. The successful candidate will supervise and train a team of approximately 20 employees, assist with hiring and recruitment, and perform time entry for payroll. Additionally, this position is responsible for purchasing merchandise and stocking the Gift Shop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee scheduling, staffing, and cash handling for daily operations at the Admissions Desk and special events.
  • Process purchase orders and invoices, receive merchandise, and resolve discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Review and record fiscal remittances, and maintain accurate records of saleable merchandise.
  • Order and stock supplies required at the Admissions Desk.
  • Manage registers, Moneris devices, and large cash floats for special events.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to inquiries from patrons and the general public.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Completion of Grade Twelve supplemented by considerable retail and cashiering experience, including supervisory responsibility. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, knowledge of cashiering methods and practices, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and suppliers.
