About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Program Specialist Harm Reduction to coordinate initiatives and advocate for policy and system change. This role will work with internal and external partners to create supportive social, economic, and physical environments that prevent harm, reduce stigma, and protect and promote health.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert-level advice and evidence on advancing harm reduction, stigma reduction, and trauma-informed work.
  • Coordinate projects and initiatives with internal and external partners.
  • Contribute to knowledge translation by synthesizing complex research findings.
  • Develop policies and programs aimed at empowering marginalized populations and reducing stigma.
  • Collaborate on developing tools and measures to understand health protection and healthy communities work.
About You

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in health promotion, sociology, or a related field, and experience working with stigmatized populations and individuals who have experienced trauma. The ideal candidate will have strong facilitation skills, knowledge of harm reduction philosophy, and experience with media advocacy and communication.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent full-time position with 75 hours biweekly. The hourly rate is $39.23 - $45.79. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
