Job Overview

The Packing Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of our packing hall machinery, producing high-quality products while adhering to safety standards and production schedules.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the packing hall machinery, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Review production schedules with the supervisor and prepare the test and setup line for production runs.
  • Adjust machine settings to optimize performance and produce high-quality products.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to good manufacturing practices and food safety guidelines.
  • Monitor machinery during operation and make necessary adjustments to address any issues or defects.
  • Maintain accurate records of breakdowns and follow up with repairs to ensure production readiness.
  • Communicate equipment concerns or deficiencies to Maintenance immediately to ensure timely repairs.
  • Follow established equipment setup procedures and review effectiveness of set points.
  • Maintain awareness of and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Meet daily and weekly production targets.
  • Minimize downtime and optimize machine operation to reduce waste and maximize output.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

Requirements

To succeed as a Packing Technician at RDJ Bakeries, you should possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience operating similar machinery in a manufacturing environment is an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and make machine adjustments.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Basic math skills for measuring and adjusting machine settings.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including production orders and machine manuals.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Working Environment

  • Work indoors.
  • May be exposed to hot temperatures from ovens.
  • May work close to others, usually within a few feet.
  • Compliant with ventilation, cleanliness, space, lighting, and temperature.

Physical Demands

  • Standing involved.
  • May repeat the same movement.
  • Often wear safety equipment such as gloves, hair nets, steel-toed safety shoes/boots, and beard nets.
  • Willingness to work in a noisy and sometimes hot manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to bend or twist their body.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
