We are seeking a skilled Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist to join our team at our Huntsville, ON facility. As a key member of our EHS Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees, contractors, and visitors.

Job Summary

The Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating HSE documents, as well as coordinating various programs and initiatives to promote a safe and healthy work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update Job Task Analysis, Operating Manual/Troubleshooting Guides, and other relevant documents
  • Coordinate Safe Workplace Ontario program for the plant
  • Schedule and coordinate plant Hygiene Testing, Hearing Testing, WHMIS testing, including Eye Wash Stations and First Aid Kits
  • Update the plant Health & Safety Policies booklet as required every 2 years
  • Monthly/Year-end Health & Safety Statistics/Reporting to all stakeholders, including Corp and CPA
  • Represent the company as chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Schedule and coordinate S.I.B. Contractor Clearance Certificates and Liability Insurance
  • Perform chemical audits annually for J.H.S.C.
  • Air Wash conversion: summer to winter & back
  • Monitor and record all well water taking record usage and destination
  • Maintain a daily water usage spreadsheet with volumes for MOE reporting
  • Monthly water sampling for pond and tap waters sent to lab for analysis
  • Weekly recording of discharge to septic
  • Weekly inspection of water infiltration ponds to ensure percolation
  • Well depth monitoring and recording weekly
  • Supply check and record sheet for maintenance daily oil, water discharge at pond and separator tank
  • Arrange for leachate well testing to confirm clean ground water aquifer on annual basis
  • Dispose of all hazardous waste from Lab and Treater
  • Maintain all movement documents for manifests for all waste streams
  • Environmental Protection Plan/Huntsville
  • Discharge reporting particulate spills and chemicals to MOE
  • Investigate and report neighbor complaints
  • Keep neighbor profile updated annually
  • Coordinate Annual waste audit by outside contractor
  • Coordinate Annual cathodic protection analysis by outside contractor
  • Recycling Waste Plan to be developed, communicated, and enforced
  • Landfill Waste Plan to be developed, communicated, and enforced
  • Environmental Waste Plan to be developed, communicated, and enforced
  • Maintain and submit facility air and environmental permits
  • Be lead in facility submissions and audits for wood supply and chain or custody
  • Maintain and report on permits for wood consumption and tracking
  • Act as lead auditor and company representative on ISO 9000
  • Review and update any chemical or regulatory inventories and reporting plus approval and review of new chemicals or processes
  • Other duties and plans laid out by the Corporate Environmental Engineer including C of A's

Salary

$80,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications

  • Understanding of Health & Safety policies and appropriate Legislation, including Environmental (MOE & MOL)
  • College training in HS&E, and Environmental
  • Good verbal & written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good computer skills, including PowerPoint
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated
