Cable Tester Job Description

BIDS TECHNICAL SERVICES INC. is seeking a skilled Cable Tester to join our team. As a Cable Tester, you will be responsible for inspecting and testing cable signals and associated equipment, installing and maintaining aerial and underground telephone equipment, and reading blueprints to determine work requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect and test cable signals and associated equipment
  • Install and maintain aerial and underground telephone equipment
  • Read blueprints to determine work requirements
  • Repair cable signals
  • Test trunking systems
  • Test equipment to locate transmission faults
  • Install trunking systems, circuits and equipment
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Complete and maintain test and service reports
  • Determine nature, cause and location of trouble
  • Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders or other support structures
  • Connect, disconnect and relocate cable outlets
  • Determine work assignments
  • Install cable modems and software to enable Internet access
  • Maintain and repair aerial and underground transmission systems
  • Repair or replace faulty cables, power suppliers and amplifiers
  • Splice, join and connect wires
  • Repair or replace defective telephone equipment
Requirements:
  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
  • 7 months to less than 1 year of experience
  • English language proficiency
  • 35 hours per week
